How to show the discount code only after email confirmation

Require customers to confirm their email before the popup discount code is revealed, with setup steps and customer-facing examples.

Use this setting when a merchant wants customers to confirm their email address before the popup discount code or reward is shown.

After this is enabled, the customer submits their email, receives a confirmation email, clicks Confirm subscription, and only then sees the reward page with the discount code.

Before you start

  • The popup already has a discount code or reward configured.

  • Email sending is working, so customers can receive the confirmation email.

  • Double opt-in must be enabled first. If the popup shows Enable Double opt-in first, click Go to settings and enable it before turning on reward confirmation.

How to configure it

1. Enable confirmation before showing the reward

Go to SendWILL Email > Popups, open the popup, and stay on the Rules tab.

In the popup rules, turn on Require email confirmation before showing reward. If this option is disabled, enable Double opt-in first from the linked settings page.

2. Configure the Confirm email screen

Go to Content > Confirm email. This is the screen customers see after they submit their email but before the reward is unlocked.

Review the heading, description, button text, resend link, countdown text, wrong email text, and change email link. The message should clearly tell customers to check their inbox and confirm their subscription.

3. Configure the Reward page

Go to Settings > Reward page. This is the page customers see after they click the confirmation link in the email.

Add the discount code or reward instructions here, and make the next step clear. For example, use a button such as Start shopping or Return to store.

4. Preview and test the full journey

Preview the popup and complete a test signup with a real inbox. The discount code should not appear immediately after the email is submitted. It should appear only after the confirmation email is clicked.

What it looks like

1. The customer subscribes through the popup

The customer enters their email and clicks the popup call-to-action button.

2. The customer receives the confirmation email

SendWILL sends the confirmation email. The customer needs to click Confirm subscription before the reward is released.

Testing checklist

  • Submit a test email address in the popup.

  • Confirm that the discount code is not shown immediately after signup.

  • Confirm that the popup asks the customer to check their inbox.

  • Open the confirmation email and click Confirm subscription.

  • Confirm that the reward page appears only after confirmation.

  • Confirm that the discount code, reward instructions, and call-to-action button are clear.

Troubleshooting

  • The setting cannot be turned on: enable Double opt-in first, then return to the popup rules.

  • The customer cannot see the discount code: ask them to confirm their email from the confirmation email first.

  • The confirmation email was not received: check the email address, spam folder, and merchant email sending setup.

  • The discount code appears too early: make sure Require email confirmation before showing reward is enabled for the correct popup.

  • The post-confirmation page is unclear: update the Reward page content and call to action.
